Cale L. Godfrey Named Assistant Chief of Wildlife Division
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) announced that Cale L. Godfrey was named assistant director of the VDGIF Wildlife Division. Mr. Godfrey filled the vacancy created when Bob Ellis was named Wildlife Division Director.

Wildlife biologists with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) have compiled preliminary figures for bear, deer, and turkey harvests for the 2008-09 fall seasons.
VDGIF Director’s Volunteer Award
In 2008, three volunteer Hunter Education instructors received the Director’s Volunteer Award for contributing more than 5,000 hours each to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Those individuals are Lewis A. Austin, of Norfolk; Jack L. Broughman, of Waynesboro; and John W. Dodson, of Culpeper. The men were honored for their work at events in Richmond and Appomattox during August and September.
Whitetail Deer Educational Workshop
Sweet Briar College and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will host an educational workshop on whitetail deer from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. The Virginia Outdoor Writer’s Association spring Journalism in the Outdoors Event will be held May 7-9 at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center near Appomattox. This event provides a great opportunity for journalists, free-lance writers and editors to meet and network with new contacts and experienced professionals in a variety of communications media.
