White House Listening Tour Slated for Pittsylvania County
The White House recently announced that President Obama has directed many members of his Cabinet to begin what it describes as a “listening tour” of rural America this summer. The tour will be in Virginia’s Blairs community on Saturday, 18 July 2009. Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Agricultural Secretary Tom Vilsack will be on a mission to develop “green jobs.”

…I am writing this letter to urge you NOT to support President-Elect Obama’s choice for Secretary (Designate) of Agriculture. Gov. Tom Vilsack (D-Iowa), the President-Elect’s nominee, is the worst possible choice. In these hard economic times, small farmers are being hit harder than ever. Gov. Vilsack is a well-known supporter of Monsanto, Archer Daniels Midland and other large agribusinesses who, more than even McDonald’s and other fast-food franchises, are responsible for the health and obesity problems plaguing our country.
