Gov. Kaine on Terrorism Threat Assessment Report
Governor Timothy M. Kaine issued the following statement today on the Fusion Center’s recent Threat Assessment Report suggesting the heightened possibility of a connection between extremist groups and historically black or Christian universities:

Nearly 700 students contributed 48,000 hours of community service in 2007-08 to earn Lynchburg College a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for 2008.
Sweet Briar College Names its 10th President
Jo Ellen Johnson Parker has been named the new president of Sweet Briar College effective July 1, 2009. The board of directors announced its decision Feb. 6. She will succeed Elisabeth Showalter Muhlenfeld, who is retiring after 13 years as the College’s ninth president.
Virginia Seniors Rank Third in Nation’s AP Scores
Governor Timothy M. Kaine praised Virginia’s high school seniors today on ranking third in the nation for the percentage of students earning a score of three or higher on the rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) examinations.
Lynchburg College to offer “Wrap” Session on Affordability
Prospective students and parents are invited to meet with Lynchburg College (LC) President Kenneth Garren at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, for a special Wrap Session (Within Reach and Personal) about the value of a Lynchburg College education. Visitors will also be given a campus tour and an opportunity to eat in the dining hall at no charge.
Perriello Introduces First Bill to Make Higher Education More Affordable
Congressman Tom Perriello (D-Virginia) and Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) announced that they have introduced the College Learning Access, Simplicity, and Savings (CLASS) Act to make it easier for students and parents to claim tax credits for higher education expenses.
