What You Missed at the Evergreen Music Festival
The Evergreen Music Festival took place on Saturday, June 13 at White Oak Farm in Evergreen, VA, just a couple miles outside of the town of Appomattox, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. It was cloudy in the morning, but the rain held off until after the festival was over. This year, there was a second “Artist Stage” for a number of local acts including Broda and Petre Liska (shown above). A number of venders also set up booths, including Nina Eagle. The proceeds to this year’s festival will be donated to Meals on Wheels of Farmville, VA.

Christmas in Appomattox Photos
Ronnie Lankford spent the day in downtown Appomattox last Saturday, December 6. He froze, talked about the cold weather, warmed up at Baine’s Books, and snapped photos whenever possible. The following images may help some of you remember how good that hot apple cider tasted, how great the music sounded, and how wonderful the shops looked this year. Read Ronnie’s write-up about the day and view more photos, and enjoy your Christmas of 2008!
Railroad Festival: Day Three, Sunday October 12
The Railroad Festival starts a little later on Sunday…but there will still be a lot going on music-wise between 12:00 and 5:00. The Good Ol’ Days Folk Stage in Abbitt Park is still a good bet on Sunday afternoon with Petr Liska at 12:00, The McKenzies at 1:00, Pablo at 2:00, Jason Ring at 3:00, and Freshwater at 4:00. The Main Street Stage offers a strong line-up with Tray Eppes at 12:00, Deja Moo at 1:00. Blue Line Highway at 2:00, and Front Street at 4:00. There will also be a full line-up once again on the Appomattox Courthouse Grounds with the Railroad Festival’s newest music addition, the Fine Arts Stage.

“Pamplin—The Way It Used to Be”: The Art of Gloria Richardson
A lively crowd was in attendance Saturday evening at the Pamplin Depot Library to view the paintings of Gloria Richardson. The exhibit opened at 6:00 pm, and those in attendance had the opportunity to speak with the artist as they viewed the 26 paintings on display. Refreshments were served.
Music & Murder, Southern Style
The South is famous for many things, including its deep-fried cuisine (chicken, okra, and squirrel) and deep tradition of song (gospel, love songs, and murder ballads). If you can’t deep fry it or sing along with it, the music/foods’ Southern origins might just be called into question. With these traditions still intact, nothing can be quite as patriotically Southern as to combine these two in one event.
