Indoor Rock Climbing Arrives in Lynchburg
The indoor climbing rage that has spread rapidly across the country has hit Lynchburg. Rise Up Climbing, led by climbing entrepreneur Dan Hague, has completed renovating a downtown building into a climbing wonderland. The new gym opened on September 27, 2008.
Daisy’s Cafe, ‘Sweet Briar Roast’ Debut Jan. 22
Sweet Briar College’s Book Shop Cafe will undergo a renovation during the winter break, emerging when students return to campus in mid-January as Daisy’s Cafe, an upscale coffee shop named for the daughter of College founder Indiana Fletcher Williams.
Winter Weather Advisory in Effect in Area
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of the commonwealth, including Amherst County and crews with the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are monitoring conditions and planning ahead. Rain may become mixed with sleet and freezing rain this evening. While little accumulation is expected, a light coating of ice could occur on elevated surfaces, in the deeper valleys and in other areas.

Comments Remain Open for 460/29 VDOT Options
In 2001, VDOT studied and developed four potential options for connecting the Route 29 Bypass with the Route 460 limited access facility west of this corridor. Each option had considerable impact to the surrounding community and each was too costly (ranging from approx. $50-70 million in 2001 dollars for each alternative) to build.
460/29 Comment Period Begins
Citizens will have an opportunity to informally review, discuss and provide input on a proposal to convert a portion of Route 460/29 to a limited access facility during a meeting on Thursday, December 11, 2008, between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. at the auditorium of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Lynchburg Office on Route 501 (Campbell Avenue) in Lynchburg.
