Dan Rather and Trucker Desiree
In March, Appomattox News ran an article about how Virginia’s rest stop closings could affect truck drivers in the state. That article, Dear VDOT, Sincerely @TruckerDesiree, featured a female long-haul truck driver who was leading one of many battles to keep the rest stops open. Her name is Trucker Desiree.
Once Trucker Desiree and other truckers realized that the public meetings held by Virginia Department of Transportation were formalities that ignored pleas to keep rest stops open, Trucker Desiree headed into new realms.
She has become an advocate for safe truck driving, among other causes, and she caught the attention of a journalist who referred her to Dan Rather. Yes, Dan Rather is on the air again, and he’s conducting in-depth interviews, investigative pieces and field reports on topics such as politics, the environment, global economy and international affairs and conflicts for the show, Dan Rather Reports on HDNet.
Truck driving seemed to fit in that latter category, as Rather will report on lack of training for new truck drivers across the U.S. in a piece entitled, “Queen of the Road.” The premiere will go live tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. If you do not get HDNet through satellite or cable, you can get the story through the iTunes Store or from the HDNet online store soon after the episodes air.
