Mary Massie
Sweet Briar College student Mary Massie, a voice major from Madison Heights, Va., will perform her senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. The recital will be held at Memorial Chapel and admission is free.
The performance will include 15 songs from various genres, including jazz, classical and musical theater. Highlights include the Harry Warren song “At Last,” famously sung by Etta James and more recently Beyoncé Knowles; “I Hate Men,” from the musical “Wicked”; “Any Girl Fifteen or Older,” from the Mozart opera “Cosi fan Tutti”; and Stephen Sondheim’s “Not While I’m Around,” from the musical “Sweeney Todd.”
Massie, a soprano, will be accompanied by Anna Billias and Rebecca McCord on piano.
“I have been preparing for this recital since my first year at Sweet Briar when I began studying with [voice instructor] Marcia Thom,” Massie said. “The audience should expect to laugh, cry and thoroughly enjoy themselves.”
Massie, a 2006 graduate of Amherst County High School, is the daughter of Wayne and Kathy Massie of Madison Heights.
