The Downtown Film Series committee announces the twelfth season of the award-winning Stars Under The Stars. Since 1997, the Series has brought timeless motion pictures back to the big screen for the Farmville and surrounding communities. Spanning all film eras and genres, the movies are presented in the grassy outdoor venue of the Downtown Crute Stage and have included classics such as Rear Window, The Adventures of Robin Hood, West Side Story, Gone With The Wind, and many more.
This year’s series continues the tradition and begins June 12 with Paul Newman starring as the anti-hero in the prison movie, Cool Hand Luke (Rated PG). July 10 brings the lavishly-filmed musical comedy, Gigi (Not Rated), the story of a young French woman being taught the ways of charm and grace. The final presentation of the 2009 season takes you back to the 80’s as you watch a boy who imagines the fantasy stories in the book he’s reading: The Never Ending Story (Rated PG). This last film will be shown on August 14.
Corporate sponsors for this year’s film series include Central Virginia Regional Library, Putney Mechanical, and The Woodland. Donations provided by Pepsi and Barnes & Noble @ Longwood. Special thanks to the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Farmville Herald, and the Town of Farmville.
Remember – the films are shown at Downtown Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main & Fourth Streets in Farmville. Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the court house.
Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for sale. In the event of rain, films will be shown the following evening. Programs begin at dusk, so be sure to bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the show!
