Are cell phones safe? Mounting concerns about the cancer risks of cell phone radiation, especially for children, will bring experts to Washington for a groundbreaking international conference on September 13-15. The goal of the conference is to propose a U.S. research agenda, and this announcement falls on the heels of a report issues this month that cell phones cause brain tumors.
The latest scientific evidence on cell phones and human health and public policy implications will be presented by such respected experts as Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, Director Emeritus, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute; Dr. Siegal Sadetzki, Tel Aviv Medical University, Israel’s key researcher on cancer and cell phones; Dr. Margaret Offermann, national research deputy at the American Cancer Society; and Professor Frank Barnes, chairman of the 2008 National Academy of Sciences report on research needed on cell phones and other personal wireless devices.
Key members of Congress are expected to attend. Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) is planning to independently chair a Senate hearing on cell phones and health on Monday, September 14 on Capitol Hill.
Dr. Devra L. Davis, Professor of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh and primary organizer of the conference, reports: “Deeply troubling findings have been reported outside the U.S., where cell phones have been widely used for longer periods of time. These findings show a doubled risk of brain cancer. Many governments, including France, Finland, China and Russia, even advise that children not use cell phones.”
Says co-organizer Dr. Dariusz Leszczynski, Research Professor at the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, “People want to believe that cell phones are safe, but at this point we cannot make that judgment. Some scientific evidence suggests that cell phones might be harmful. Given the current uncertainty, we have to develop precautionary measures to reduce potential risks while the new research is planned and carried out.”
Sponsored by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences; University of Pittsburgh; National Research Center for Women & Families; The International Commission for Electromagnetic Safety; The Flow Fund Circle, and the Environmental Health Trust, the conference will be held at the historic Credit Union House, 4th and Maryland Ave. NE, near the U.S. Capitol.
A limited number of spaces are available for the public to attend. The agenda and pre-registration forms are on www.environmentalhealthtrust.org.

This is new news, to an older e-mail. My name is Virginia Farver, and I had written about my Son, Rich, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. Origanally I thought it was his cell phone that caused his cancer, but please read the rest of this! Rich, was a graduate student at SDSU in San Diego, CA. Four men, two died in 2008, (one my Son), one in the 90’s,(with a cell tower on top of this building), all from glioblastoma. One gentleman is currently battling a primary malignant brain tumor, and isn’t doing well. Since I last wrote in, ANOTHER brain cancer victim has been identified. I found these articles in August of 2009. I drove out to San Diego, and met with some of the Professor’s connected to this building, called Nasatir Hall. They wanted to get a toxicology study done, but the school wouldn’t allow it, because of an epidemiologic report that, the school’s expert wrote. I e-mailed this epidemiologist, and he CALLED me back. I told him that these Professor’s were concerned about this tower, and he said,” they should be.” I thought that was rather odd, so I came home and started relentlessly looking on the internet. In these articles, a Mr. Greg Block, the schools spokesman at the time, mentions this tower is a Sprint Tower. I was SHOCKED when I found out what it really was. I had also taken pictures of this tower, while I was there. It is a HPWREN, High Performance Wireless Educational Network, a backbone node to the UCSD campus. It is capable of sending signals up to 74 miles away! To Mount Soledad, Mount Laguna, Mount Margarita, emergency services, and has something to do with homeland security! We’ve done testing on our own, and are waiting for results. The Professor’s and I have had the HONOR of having some wonderful organizations helping us! Wifi, Celltower’s, and cellphones have absolutely NO place near our kids. I sent my Son to school to receive a master’s degree, not Brain Cancer!!! I believe our public is completely nieve to think our Government has their best interest at heart! How many more people will have to die, before this telecommunications industry is stopped? If your kids are near a cell tower, make sure what it really is, not what someone tells you!
Sincerely,
Virginia Farver

I’m writing on behalf of my Son, Richard Blaine Farver,(Rich). Rich died of glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer on OCT.11,2008, at the age of 29. Rich, was a typical kid with his cell phone on him at ALL times. It was his main source of communication for the last several years! Rich, was also a graduate student at SDSU in San Diego, CA. In August of this year(09), I found articles about a,’Cancer Cluster,’ at SDSU. These articles were written in March of 09, which no one contacted me about! There is a particular building on campus called,’Nasatir Hall,’ room,131.’ Also a Video titled,’SDSU Room Haunted by Cancer.’ Rich, is the graduate student who these articles are referring too. Four men, two died in 2008,(one being my Son), one in the 90’s all from glios. There is a gentleman that is currently battling a malignant primary brain tumor. All these men worked in this building and room. I KNOW, Rich’s cell phone caused his cancer. His neurosurgeon thought so as well. Rich, had headaces , nose bleeds, extreme fatigue, and unusual irritability the last couple years. There is a cell phone tower next to this building which I feel is suspicious, and most likely contributed to these brain cancer cases and deaths. Rich’s brain tumor was in his right frontal lobe, and he was right handed. I contacted SDSU and they were NOT going to investigate these brain tumor deaths! I’m furious! This is a HORRIBLE disease, and I DO NOT want anyone else, or their families to endure this! I KNOW these phone companies are not regulated, but ironiocally, Rich could not recieve AVASTIN last year because it hadn’t been approved!!!! Why in the World isn’t the American Cancer Society and the FDA in business for, if they aren’t siding on CAUTION? I see kids with these phones to there heads all the time!! The therapies are expensive and offer little, if any hope. My Son only lived seven months after diagnosis. This has ruined our lives. Rich, was the LOVE of my life and my best friend!! This, ‘It won’t happen to me, attitude,’ well, I’m hear to say it can!!!! Please help defending these companies who are doing harm to the public. It IS your duty!!!
Sincerely,
Virginia Farver
