Martha Hamlett
Local author Martha Clowdis Hamlett will be at the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library on Thursday, October 22nd, from 6:00pm – 7:30pm, to read her children’s book in a family style story time.
Martha Clowdis Hamlett published her first children’s picture book, “Bats in the Air, Bats in My Hair,” in November 2008. It is a vivid, rhyming story about Sally’s overnight adventure at her Grandmother’s house where she encounters some very silly bats who just want to have a “party” in Sally’s room. It is great fun for the Kindergarten to 2nd grade age level. The story is taken from her own childhood experience at her Grandmother’s house.
Mrs. Hamlett is originally from Red House and currently lives in Lynchburg with her husband, Phillip, and two sons, Noah and Christian. She has been actively reading in the local schools in and around the Lynchburg area encouraging the students to “stretch their imaginations.” She has participated in several signings in the area, most recently at Barnes and Noble Tanglewood Mall and at Longwood University’s Summer Conference. “Bats in the air, Bats in My Hair” is available at Givens Books in Lynchburg and Country Charm in Appomattox or online at Authorhouse.com, Amazon.com, or BarnesandNoble.com.
Everyone is encouraged to come to the reading dressed in his or her pajamas to enjoy this event. The library will provide craft projects and snacks after the reading. Martha will be on hand with copies of her book for sale. This would be the perfect time to pick up a great gift for the upcoming holiday season. Be sure to bring the whole family and pick up a signed copy of this children’s book!
