As a child imprisoned in Auschwitz, Eva Mozes Kor was a victim of medical experimentation performed on twins by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele. She will share her story in Lynchburg on Feb. 5, first with students at E.C. Glass High School and then with the public at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Ballroom in Hall Campus Center at Lynchburg College. A book signing will follow.

On Friday afternoon the first sign of spring showed its pretty little head and most welcome it was too. No, it wasn’t a flock of hungry robins feasting on earthworms or anything in bloom. It was the arrival of spring gardening stuff at the Farmville Voldemart (A.K.A. WalMart)!

By the time you read this, our new US President is on the job and probably wondering why he went through all that trouble to get it. Let’s face it, the guy has his work cut out for him. Being President of the US is not some cushy walk in the park job like, say, civilian squadron communications officer. That’s my job, by the way, and no, I’m not giving the money back.

Kids seem to hate, at least when looking back years later, piano lessons, and they hold those lessons against parents for the rest of their lives. While other kids were doing all kinds of fun things in the afternoon – riding bikes, playing Nintendo, and committing minor felonies – you were trying to learn a passage from Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata. But even at a young age Brenda Barringer, better known to fans of her music as Broda, was different.
