Steins Galore
Tucked away in far southeastern Appomattox County is Steins Unlimited, boasting one of the largest and most complete collections of antique beer steins amassed anywhere in the world. George Adam is the owner and collector of these steins and is proud to have the world’s largest beer stein in his collection, a monster that holds 32 liters (shown in image). His collection boasts rare steins from the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries as well as modern steins.
Adam owns steins from all over the world and one room is devoted entirely to American steins that celebrate American breweries. Many of the steins are offered for sale and custom steins are also available. Adam does his own pewter casting for the lids and embossing and can duplicate just about any emblem you bring to him.
The steins are displayed in a large workshop and in every room of his home and visitors are welcome Monday through Friday from 9 am until 4 pm and on Saturday from 9 am until 1 pm. In addition to the stein collection Adam maintains Pamplin Paradise, a beautiful hiking trail complete with picnic grove. Visitors are welcome to bring a lunch and enjoy the gazebo, stream, and woods in this 14-acre preserve.
Steins Unlimited is located on Swan Road (Rt. 600) at Richmond Highway (Rt. 460). Phone, 434-248-6114.
In addition to Steins Unlimited, Adam with friend Betty Smith operates an antiques and collectibles store, Junque N Stein. Junque N Stein occupies the old bank building on Business 460 in Pamplin, just past the Pipe Factory. Here Betty displays and sells a wide variety of items and Adam sells commemorative steins. Junque N Stein is open Thursday through Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday from 1-5. Other times by appointment, 434-248-6114.
