Pamplin Annual Poker Run Fundraiser
The Pamplin Volunteer Fire and EMS second Annual Poker Run Fundraiser was held at the Pamplin firehouse on August 16th, with the first bike out at 9:00 am and the last bike out at 11:00 am. Bikers paid $10 per hand to participate, but all other events were free for a willing audience. Along with the Bike Show, a Silent Auction and a Rodeo, we figure that all who attended had a great time. After the event, the Southland Band performed. The participants and on-hand crowd also enjoyed food and merchandise.
Proceeds from this event went to the Pamplin Volunteer Fire and EMS emergency teams, and donations always are welcome. Founded in 1952, the Pamplin Volunteer Fire Department and E.M.S. Inc. serves the Town of Pamplin and portions of Appomattox, Prince Edward and Charlotte Counties in central southside Virginia. The department consists of 32 active firefighters, twelve E.M.S providers and eight retired Lifetime Members.
The Pamplin unit even provides an Enhanced 911 call center with 2 to 3 dispatchers to handle emergency calls. The E911 enhanced emergency number actually can pinpoint the location of an emergency call originating from land-based or cellular phones. This capability has been extended to Appomattox and Charlotte counties as well. Appomattox County’s 911 dispatch center is now operational and provides 911 coverage in the county.
