Farm Grants for Beef Farmers
Up to five farmers each in Campbell, Appomattox, Buckingham, and Cumberland counties may receive grants directed to beef cattle producers. However, this is the first time that up to 38 cattle farmers in Bedford County could be eligible for these grants. These monies, which originate from the tobacco commission, are a 50/50 cost share up to $3,000, according to the News Advance. The money is earmarked for improvements to cattle handling facilities or for genetics that will increase a herd’s value. Those who have received grants previously are not eligible for this upcoming round.
Two informational meetings will be held concerning these grants. One, in Bedford County, will be held at 7pm on 12 February in the Bedford County Administration Building. The other meeting will be held at 7pm in Campbell County on 21 February at the Virginia Co-op Extension office conference room. These meetings have been added to the Appomattox Calendar.
