Documentary Film in Appomattox

Kristin Freshwater, her brother Justin, and Kat Antis recently filmed a short documentary entitled, “Looking In.” The film details the evening routine of two young women living, working, and creating in Appomattox, Virginia.

Freshwater, a recent graduate of the University of Virginia, worked with her brother Justin, a UVA Sophomore to create the documentary. They both convinced Antrim that she had something to add to the work.

Said Freshwater about Looking In, “We were going for a natural look and Justin tried to recreate the actual atmosphere of our locations. He had to darken the film in editing to capture the look of Appomattox at night. Looking In was shot in the course of one week and quickly edited soon thereafter. It was a bit of an experiment for two aspiring filmmakers. We hope that it captures a piece of small town life that is rarely visited.”

Ms Freshwater, 23, is Assistant Manager at Baine’s Books and Coffee and worked with the National Park Service over the winter. Her degree is in Drama with a History minor. Justin Freshwater, 20, is also majoring in Drama. Both are native Appomattoxians and intend to continue making films.

Ms Antis, 26, originally from Northern Virginia, is a studio potter and maintains her studio in downtown Appomattox at 318 Linden Street. She moved to Appomattox about four years ago and her work is sold locally.
