After several months of deliberation, consternation, contemplation and procrastination, Appomattox History (http://www.appomattoxhistory.com/) finally went “live” this past week. The site will focus on Appomattox area history, but we hope to bring news of interest from across the state and the nation when it pertains to area history. The topics include people, places, events (current and past), things (cultural objects), news and videos.
Katharine G. Bloodworth offers up the initial feature story on Peggy and Shelby Voorhees, a mother and daughter team of Civil War era reenactors. You can enjoy their perspectives on their ‘hobby’ along with photographs. Other items include a “Today in History” category that focuses on the Appomattox area. This column will run daily from Mondays through Fridays.
If you’re interested in area history, feel free to contribute. Information about how to contribute is included at the site. We’re also interested in press releases, photographs and links to local history information.
About Appomattox History: Appomattox History is included under the umbrella of Appomattox News, a privately-owned venture. Linda Goin is the sole owner, and she maintains an historical interest in the area through her master’s degree and research into the early eighteenth-century Huguenot migration into Virginia. For further information about the Appomattox History project, you can contact Linda at “publisher @ appomattoxnews.com” (Remove spaces and quotes).
