Because I am loyal, hard-working, and dependable, a few years ago I was finagled onto the Board of Directors of our horse organization, Al Khamsa. One would assume this to be a great honor but one would be wrong. It is actually more like a red letter stitched to one’s chest, a blazing announcement that one is wiling to give many hours of one’s time, talent, and money to insure that AK functions.

Very recently, as I walked through crunchy fallen leaves strewn over hard-packed ground on a crisp autumn day, I mused on how much I enjoy this time of year, despite the fact that it is actually the last vestiges of summer wasting away before winter, much like the cold, uninviting embrace of death. Kind of ruined the mood, but hey, it’s what I do.

As most people in Appomattox know, the traffic condition in Lynchburg along 460/29 and interchange 501 normally is congested. Watch for heavier-than-normal traffic this weekend if you plan to head into Lynchburg, as Liberty University is holding its homecoming on Saturday, October 25th. However, it appears that alumni have begun heading into town as early as Thursday (yesterday). Keep this extra traffic in mind as you head to the mall or other points in that area.

This morning, the News & Advance published an opinion about how the Appomattox Town Council threw away the chance to save their taxpayers close to $100,000 annually by rejecting a proposal to join the Lynchburg Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau. I discovered that news headline through what is known as Twitter, a program that allows anyone to broadcast their personal and business doings, both factual and opinion. I “retweeted”, or repeated that headline and accredited the headline back to the News & Advance. This is how news is spread these days – at least electronically.
